Mid week crisis

Years and years ago I promised myself I’d have one of these one day, as soon as I was old enough to buy one. And I’m already thirty. I don’t even have a drivers license yet. Seriously – at this rate if I don’t start planning towards this dream right away I’ll be 60 before I get one, and the thing will be so vintage by then it won’t even run anymore.

VW camper van

Check out the styling on this beauty. If she was mine I’d call her Bibi Battlecruiser. She has the classic curves of the Isetta – and everyone who knows me well knows that the Isetta is my favourite car of all time, so this little beauty is really doing a number on me. I so badly just want one, an empty but running shell that I can convert and make my own. I reckon this dream is fantastic enough to inspire me to finally overcome my fear of driving and get the license.

I only hope I feel the same way tomorrow.

oh man. i totally read the title of this post as ‘mid life crisis’

with that premise you can understand how my brain turned the word ‘buy’ into ‘have’ in your first sentence.

so i’m nodding along, thoroughly enjoying this surprisingly goofy post, and i’m thrown by the driver’s lisence comment but my mistake didn’t finally dawn on me until the word ‘vintage’.

so i’m thinking you’d be worried you won’t have a mid life crisis until you’re sixty and i’m thinking, you must have a lot of faith in medical technology.

anyway, you guys should definitely fly around in one of those. hahaha, there’s no one more perfect than you two to be seen in one of those crossing the country and maybe tony danza would tag along

I used to have a split window just like this and the best part was taking a tired westy interior and making it your own. I decked mine out in mid-century barkcloth and it was sweet.

Those safari windows are the coolest thing ever. There is nothing like a late night summer drive and feeling the warm air rush past your knuckles and wash over your face as you navigate a winding road with one giant steering wheel.

I bought an old car a couple of months ago and it’s been so much fun. My drive home from work has never been so much fun.

I think it’s time for you guys to endulge yourselves with a new toy. I don’t think you’ll regret it.

That’s exactly what I’m talking about. Everything inside would have at least 2 purposes. A small sunroof would make it absolutely perfect.

If you could convert the guts of the thing into a full on RV, complete with a table that turns into a bed, a bed that turns into a love factory, a kitchen that doubles as a wine cellar, a recliner which has a cushion that lifts up to reveal a toilet, and some type of rebuilt engine that doesn’t require oodles of gas to tug it all, that’d be the best cruise for venturing through the wiles of America, Northern and otherwise!
