Standing Man Protests
Did anyone see the extraordinary “standing man” protest in Istanbul last night? I guess we are all used to seeing huge shouting crowds fighting with the Police, teargas, water cannon etc etc.
But there’s also something very powerful about these stationary, silent protesters in Taksim Square. Needless to say, some were arrested, but it’s very difficult to see what offence is standing quietly in a public place.

Chapter 43 of Tao Te Ching
Written by Lao-tzu
From a translation by S. Mitchell
The gentlest thing in the world
overcomes the hardest thing in the world.
That which has no substance
enters where there is no space.
This shows the value of non-action.
Teaching without words,
performing without actions:
that is the Master’s way.
