The courts tend to go with a parent when possible. Their best chance would be proving he’s unfit. Here, that typically means a drug or alcohol abuser, or in an abusive relationship. He’d have to have a record.

No, but seriously, they should be able to easily file on the grounds that the guy hasn’t been around for five years and the best situation for the children is to stay with the family that they know. Having a pregnant teenage girlfriend isn’t going to help him any. I hope it works out for the family and I hope the dad gets testicular cancer but doesn’t come off it to win the Tour de France 7 times in a row.
