It’s not true that the word ‘name’ simply refers to the sequence of sounds used to label objects or concepts. It can also incorporate the characteristics, nuances and influence of someone.

For example, if someone says ‘the war in Iraq has given Tony Blair a bad name.’ It does simply mean that everyone has started calling him ‘the autocratic wanker in charge of the country’, it means that his reputation has been tainted too.

Therefore his/her argument is entirely spurious.
