The writer of the novel that the movie was based on was sued, I believe, by the geisha whose story he apparently stole. (I’m skeptical, I think that she was just pissed that she didn’t get her share of the cut.)

Personally I hate when gaijin filmmakers do Japan! They always get it wrong. But I love a visual feast as much as the next person, and I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

It opens earlier some places. THere is some controversy about it though. It seems that the stars are not Japanese at all, but Chinese. This has not set well with the Japanese folks.
