“Astronomers felt the tingle of history down their spine on Tuesday as Venus kissed the face of the Sun for the first time in more than a century but many cursed the weather gods for spoiling their day.
Among the public, some mistakenly expected the splendour of a solar eclipse and were disappointed when the ballyhooed Venus transit proved to be much less spectacular. European skywatchers were awed as they watched the speck of the Solar System’s second planet inch its way across the Sun.”
