The popularity dialer
Lifehacker: ‘Feel left out in a room full of people talking into their cell phones instead of to each other? The Popularity Dialer schedules recordings to call your cell phone at a predetermined time to give the impression that you too are “in demand.”
The recordings are hilarious – and pretty realistic! – one-sided conversations with a male or female “friend” or your “boss” timed just so that you’d respond in kind. Ok fine, we’re not suggesting that you actually use this to seem more popular, but it could be just the thing to escape a bad date or drawn-out meeting
The Popularity Dialer – try it out. its in beta!

There is another group that has taken this idea and done one better: http://www.mobilealibi.com. First, you don’t have to pre-plan – you can make rescue, alibi, and image calls remotely by dialing their toll-free number. Second, they allow you to spoof the caller ID that calls you so that you can facilitate an alibi call. take a look http://www.mobilealibi.com

We have to wear pagers in Victim Services. If we decide we may be in a situation that we want to have an excuse to leave, we set the pager to go off at a specified time. Then, all we have to do is whip the beeping thing off our belt, look at it, announce that we have to make a call, go call anyone, come back, say we have another emergency and have to leave. I’ve used this, and not always just for Victim Services.

Thanks for the B-day wishes Olivia!
And my mom is my “popularity dialer” too! However, isn’t it pretty sad to have your mobile be the gauge by which you measure one’s popularity?
bob
so who needs a relay call?
olivia
She sure is! And you’re mine ;@)

hahaha…that’s hilarious, however I already have my “popularity dialer”, but I usually just refer to her as Mom. She calls me all the time, literally like 19 times a day, so I really don’t need to worry about getting out of sticky situations.
But for the rest of the not-so-over-protected human beings, this is a great thing to be aware of.
