{"id":10947,"date":"2010-05-08T18:44:49","date_gmt":"2010-05-09T00:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yummy-wakame.com\/?p=10947"},"modified":"2010-05-08T18:44:49","modified_gmt":"2010-05-09T00:44:49","slug":"i-am-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/2010\/05\/i-am-me\/","title":{"rendered":"I Am Me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"color10\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.avanta.net\/writings\/i-am-me.html\" rel=\"external\">Virginia Satir<\/a> came to write this poem when she was working with an angry fifteen-year-old girl who had a lot of questions about herself and what life meant.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I am me.<br \/>\nIn all the world, there is no one exactly like me.<br \/>\nThere are persons who have some parts like me,<br \/>\nbut no one adds up exactly like me.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, everything that comes out of me<br \/>\nis authentically mine because I alone choose it.<br \/>\nI own everything about me<br \/>\n<strong>my body<\/strong> including everything it does;<br \/>\n<strong>my mind<\/strong> including all its thoughts and ideas;<br \/>\n<strong>my eyes<\/strong> including the images of all they behold;<br \/>\n<strong>my feelings<\/strong> whatever they may be&#8230;<br \/>\nanger,<br \/>\njoy,<br \/>\nfrustration,<br \/>\nlove,<br \/>\ndisappointment,<br \/>\nexcitement<br \/>\n<strong>my mouth<\/strong> and all the words that come out of it<br \/>\npolite,<br \/>\nsweet or rough,<br \/>\ncorrect or incorrect;<br \/>\n<strong>my voice<\/strong> loud or soft.<br \/>\nAnd all my actions, whether they be to others or to myself.<\/p>\n<p>I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.<br \/>\nI own all my triumphs and successes,<br \/>\nall my failures and mistakes.<br \/>\nBecause I own all of me I can become intimately acquainted with me.<br \/>\nBy doing so I can love me and be friendly with me in all parts.<br \/>\nI can then make it possible for all of me to work in my best interests.<\/p>\n<p>I know there are aspects about myself that puzzle me,<br \/>\nand other aspects that I do not know.<br \/>\nBut as long as I am friendly and loving to myself,<br \/>\nI can courageously and hopefully, look for solutions to the puzzles<br \/>\nand for ways to find out more about me. <\/p>\n<p>However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think<br \/>\nand feel at a given moment in time is me.<br \/>\nThis is authentic and represents where I am in that moment in time.<br \/>\nWhen I review later how I looked and sounded, what I said and did, and how I<br \/>\nthought and felt, some parts may turn out to be unfitting.<br \/>\nI can discard that which is unfitting, and keep that which proved fitting,<br \/>\nAnd invent something new for that which I discarded.<\/p>\n<p>I can see, hear, feel, think, say and do.<br \/>\nI have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive,<br \/>\nand to make sense and order out of the world of people<br \/>\nand things outside of me.<br \/>\nI own me, and therefore I can engineer me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am me and I am okay.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Virginia Satir came to write this poem when she was working with an angry fifteen-year-old girl who had a lot of questions about herself and what life meant.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[213,214],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-10947","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-food-for-thought","category-wildishheart"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10947","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=10947"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/10947\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=10947"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=10947"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=10947"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
