{"id":2078,"date":"2004-12-10T14:06:41","date_gmt":"2004-12-10T18:06:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.yummy-wakame.com\/archives\/2004\/12\/10\/\/"},"modified":"2004-12-10T14:06:41","modified_gmt":"2004-12-10T18:06:41","slug":"2078","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yummy-wakame.com\/weblog\/2004\/12\/2078\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Office Party Pooper<\/strong><br \/>This is one of the things I find endearing about the UK &#8211; this is the only country in the world where news like this gets coverage on every TV and radio station:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/party.jpg\" alt=\"Party\" class=\"oldblogthumb\" \/><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.personneltoday.com\/Articles\/2004\/12\/10\/27114\/RoSPA+issued+Christmas+party+health+and+safety+warning.htm\" rel=\"external\">RoSPA issued Christmas party health and safety warning<\/a><br \/>&#8220;Companies have been urged to make sure their staff do not injure themselves at office Christmas parties by dancing on desks or photocopying themselves. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Managers should not even put up mistletoe in case it encourages sexual harassment, warns a report from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the TUC.<\/p>\n<p>Roger Bibbings, an occupational heath adviser at RoSPA, insisted the organisation was not being a Scrooge, and instead called on firms to hold their festive parties in a hotel or bar. &#8220;We are not being party poopers,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Some sensible safety precautions will allow people to have a great office celebration without having to call in the emergency services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Frances O&#8217;Grady, TUC deputy general secretary, added: <strong>&#8220;There will not be much Christmas cheer in your workplace if your winter wonderland turns out to be a danger zone.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A separate report has said that festive hangovers could cost UK firms &pound;65m.
