We started out at 11am and only got to the YHA by 9 in the evening! Our feet were killing us, our backs in spasm from carrying rucksacks. We&#8217;d had very little food that day and ran out of water so we were absolutely exhausted! I limped around the kitchen preparing packet pasta sauce for supper before we shovelled it down and went to bed.<\/p>\n<p>I had to lift my legs into the bed because I couldnt move them. We were in so much pain.<\/p>\n<p>There were many moments during the day when I looked back on my 10 hour bus ride in airconditioned luxury, and wished I was in it instead of walking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cumbria<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/cumbria.jpg\" alt=\"Cumbria, fair Cumbria\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cumbria County Show<\/strong> &#8211; place of countrified horsy people and yummy butter fudge.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/the_cumbria_county_show.jpg\" alt=\"Horses in a line make for a good time\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Quiddity bundubashing through the jungle<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/quiddity_brundabashing.jpg\" alt=\"Quiddity the Brave\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Taking a break<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/taking_a_break.jpg\" alt=\"Ohlivia, wishing she'd have ridden one of those ponies...\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Snack break<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/having_a_snack.jpg\" alt=\"Having a (well deserved) snack\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A forest<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/a-forest.jpg\" alt=\"Looks spooky, approach with intrepid determination\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>At this point I&#8217;m hoping, &#8220;Boy, this is probably as hard as it gets!&#8221; HAHAHAHAHAAAA!<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/hah.jpg\" alt=\"Laughing at your own misfortune\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A future pagan fertility ritual site<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/pagan_poonanny.jpg\" alt=\"Sexy tree\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Around 9pm and approaching Birdoswald YHA, situated in the remains of a Roman fort<\/strong><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/pics\/weblog\/hadrians_wall\/wall.jpg\" alt=\"Approaching Birdoswald\" class=\"imgborder\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was a very hectic 20 mile walk over all kinds of terrain and beautiful countryside.
