I was doing some backyard astronomy around 9 p.m. on Halloween, and this meteor was so bright it made me lose my night vision.'&#8221; &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/headlines\/y2005\/03nov_taurids.htm?list802911\" rel=\"external\">NASA.gov<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Every year in late October and early November, &#8230;Earth passes through a river of space dust&#8230; Tiny grains (meteors) hit our atmosphere at 65,000 mph. Because these meteors shoot out of the constellation Taurus, they&#8217;re called Taurids.<\/p>\n<p>Most years the shower is weak, producing no more than five rather dim meteors every hour. But occasionally, the Taurids put on quite a show.
