The Ghent Altarpiece (Open) by Hubert van Eyck and Jan van Eyck “I was profoundly influenced by childhood excursions to a large Catholic church steeped in mystery, symbols, tradition, costume, song and artwork. It was accessible, comforting and lavish. Rosaries, chasubles, fringed and gold-threadwork stoles, mitres, chalices, stained glass, sculpture, icons, missals and holy cards with gold-leaf edges, chanting, Latin singing and liturgy, repetitious prayers, processions and choruses. All was imbued with significance and it was transporting.

Ceremonial in nature, my artwork refers to both my personal life and multi-cultural sensibilities.”

No love, it’s ball of string
