This week, Gordon Brown pledged an extra £1 billion each year in international aid for the world’s poorest people.

But it’s even better news for the world’s poor. The amount of change this extra aid can achieve is huge. 14 million more people can have clean water and sanitation. Two million more children can go to school. A quarter of a million infant deaths can be avoided.
