horseAnimal lovers needed to muck in
Appeal: Horse-loving volunteers are wanted to help at the Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre in Slinfold in a bid to cut running costs.

Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre, based in Slinfold near Horsham, is looking for volunteers for riding, mucking out, gardening and ground maintenance. The centre is set in 90 acres of land and has 25 horses in its care at any one time for assessment, reschooloing and, in many cases, rehoming.

With annual running costs of £220,000, the charity relies heavily not only on finacial donations but also on volunteer helpers – who must be over 18 years old. Graham Oldfield and Sue Collins, who run the centre, are keen to hear from anyone who might be able to provide some much-needed assistance. Mr Oldfield said: “Running the centre is expensive and time-consuming and we just can’t have too many extra pairs of hands. “Anything people can do to help, even if they can spare just a couple of hours now and again, will be much appreciated.”
