contents of a homeless persons bagPeek inside the bags of London’s homeless

“With the Identity Kit series shown here, I have attempted to portray the gross poverty of the dispossessed by inviting some of the homeless men on London’s streets to display their belongings – those carried in their pockets, or in a bag. The individuals’ participation in the arrangement of their possessions, and their willingness to lay them open for external scrutiny, is a statement from the heart of their perilous and impecunious position. (As one young man, Darren, stated: These are all my worldly goods.)” ~ Moyra Peralta

This one in particular really struck a chord with me – all the contents perfectly laid out in a balanced arrangement. Unworn wristwatch, glasses, peppermints, pen just in case, Big Issue VIP badge, nailclippers for grooming… it could have been my Pieter 🙁 Im sure most of us would be reminded of someone we cherish through some of the images… remember that next time you walk past a homeless person. It could happen to you, at any time, after a single life-shattering experience. Yes even you. So please stop and show some recognition and attention next time.
