UK Gypsies win High Court backing
“Travellers at a site in Cambridgeshire have won the right to take High Court action over council plans to evict them.
The judge warned travellers generally that the courts “would not countenance” the growing practice of gypsies moving on to sites and setting up home before formally obtaining planning permission.”
Gypsies are part of British culture and heritage, and deserve to be accepted. Yet thousands of travellers have no where to set up home, in full breach of human rights. There are no proper regulations, so no wonder it’s such a huge mess and such a hot issue with city councils and residents.
Imagine if every city council had a plot of land specifically designated for travellers, and local residents would all vote to choose the area. Each group of travellers had to apply for a communal identity which they would use to ‘book’ a plot. If they left a plot in a mess, the next council would be warned, and they would not allow access to their plot until the travellers go back and clean up the mess. This would make it easier for councils to evict travellers for good reason. If a community stayed in an area for longer than 5 years, they would be given the option to club together and buy the site. That sounds fair to me.
