What is your Ecological Footprint?
myfootprint.org – do the quiz

earth“Ever wondered how much ‘nature’ your lifestyle requires? You’re about to find out. This Ecological Footprint Quiz estimates how much productive land and water you need to support what you use and what you discard.”

What is your result?

My Results:
Worldwide, there exists 1.8 biologically productive hectares (or 4.5 acres) per person to sustain every one of us.

I am ashamed to say my footprint is 2.2 global hectares (5.4 acres). If everyone lived like me we would need 1 and a quarter Earths to provide enough resources and to handle the pollution and waste I output.

To put it into perspective:
The average ecological footprint in the UK is 5.3 hectares (13 acres).
The average Canadian uses 8.8 hectares (21 acres).
The Average Northern American uses 10 hectares (24 acres). Can you imagine how many Earths that is? That’s over 5!! Think about it for a minute… this is not just a number.

The average South African uses 1.7 hectares (4.2 acres). As this is lower than the allotted amount per person. The average South African is living a sustainable life, and whether they know it or not, is doing their part to limit the impact of the greedier countries. Well done South Africa! I hope more countries follow suit.
