London banked on South Africans to win the olympic bid

NEWS24: The French are up in arms and there are many red faces in the British capital after it has come to light that Britain’s final presentation in their bid for the Olympic Games starred only South Africans. The children that were used in the video to portray London as a multi-cultural city are all from Pretoria and Johannesburg.

A French daily, Le Parisien, said London broke the rules and a French Olympic swimmer, Francis Luyce, said it was an “insult” to France. Paris was the favourite to host the 2012 Games. “The London video represents a vision. When you are portraying fiction, it is impractical to jump across continents,” Rowland told The Mail on Sunday.

To watch the promotional video from the final presentation which helped London clinch the right to host the 2012 Olympics, visit this article on the BBC website, click on “London’s presentation” on the right hand side and from the popup window select “Replay: London’s inspirational promo film” under related audio and video.
